So I know I said I was relieved that my MRI came back “unremarkable.” In other words, they didn’t see what they thought was a tumor or evidence of Multiple Sclerosis. So that is good news for sure. But unfortunately, the diagnosis is that I have Ménière’s Disease. I never even heard of it, let alone pronounce it. So let’s just put a Disney spin on it and say it like this: “Minnie ears” disease. 🙂
After my pity party of one, I have come to certain realizations:
1. OK, so I have this. I have an answer to why my ear started having diminished hearing and humming in it. Answers are good.
2. Yes, it is something that won’t just magically go away, but on the flip side, it’s not a terminal condition.
3. The big no-no for me now is SALT. Salt is the enemy. And I’m finding that salt is in practically everything. But it won’t hurt me or my family to be more diligent about what we eat and drink.
So far (knock on wood), I have been able to keep things stabilized and even enjoy life with no humming in my ear. I’m not naive to think that it will always be this way, but for now, I’ll take it. Celebrating the small victories, people!
For those of you who followed along and put up with my stress and whining about it, I want to say thanks. And I hope that putting this out there can be helpful to someone struggling with the same symptoms or who has a loved one going through this too. I don’t claim to be groundbreaking here-just pushing myself beyond what is comfortable for me.
