20 years ago, I said “I do” to my best friend. And I still do, after all these years. I think love grows even stronger as you weather the trials and face challenges together. And hello, becoming parents is THE gamechanger event. An anniversary gives you an opportunity to slow down, look back on your wedding day, reminisce and focus on the marriage. Because with kids and jobs and activities, that often gets pushed to the backburner.
For our wedding, we made a little trip to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. The setting? Sapphire Beach (true to the name with its blue gem waters). The time? 4ish-because after all, you’re in the Caribbean and everyone functions on Caribbean time. Steel pan music in the air, sand between our toes–we were barefooted, naturally. Sure, there were several oops moments even in this idyllic locale: the hairstylist who was late, the wedding planner who wasn’t seeing things my way (boy did she learn!), my putting the ring on the wrong finger. In my defense, he handed me his right hand, not his left. I’d do it all over again…and would love the opportunity to do that (hint, hint)!
Would I recommend a destination wedding? Absolutely! In fact, I have plenty of tips and resources if you need advice. Or hey, how about vow renewals? I’m thinking that needs to be next up on our plate!
Thanks for indulging me by letting me share my wedding day memories with you.
