February is here, which means Valentine’s Day is just around the corner!
Love is in the air. If you want to speak a woman’s love language, then give her chocolate and wine, I say! They make #asweetpairing.
So here are a few Valentine’s Day ideas that will WOW your sweetie and earn major brownie points. Mmm, brownies! Incidentally, Ghirardelli also makes the best cookie and brownie mixes on the planet!
Valentine’s Day Ideas
For Your Sweetheart
1. A wine and chocolate gift basket or gift bag.
Having worked in a combination restaurant and gift shop, I have to say that gift baskets are popular and much appreciated. Wine and chocolate are perfect for men and women, so no need to stress what to get for Valentine’s Day. Add a touch of whimsy with your gift giving and show your personality: mine shines through with this Mickey and Minney SWAK moment from Disney.
2. Give the gift of Josh Cellars wine and also book a wine tasting.
Did you know that Josh Cellars boasts some stellar ratings–96 points for the 2013 California Cabernet Sauvignon! Instead of wondering what food to pair the wine with (besides Ghirardelli Dark & Raspberry squares), attach a gift certificate or an invitation to a wine tasting in your area.
Wine tastings are all over the place and quite a fun way to spend an evening. Our Book Club attends at least 2 a year-you can imagine we don’t talk too much about the book when at a wine tasting!
3. Ghirardelli chocolates and the promise to travel to where it all began for Ghirardelli: San Francisco!
Travel is my love language, so a surprise like this would be AMAZING. My husband and I enjoyed a grown-ups only trip to the City by the Bay last April, and I have to say it was FANTASTIC.
Loved my Dylan’s Tours electric bike tour of the city, our trek to Napa, and a day with a dear friend at the Walt Disney Museum and Ghirardelli Square.
For the Teen/Tween Set: Chocolates Only (No Wine for Them!)
Teens
Cute tins with chocolates and Valentine’s goodies
My teenage daughter believes chocolate is a food group (along with sushi), so when she saw all the Ghirardelli goodies coming in our door, she immediately perked up. Why not craft a few Valentine’s ideas for the kids to give as gifts? These are easy to assemble and don’t break the bank. Most of these treats cost $1-5 each and can be found at Target or Wal-Mart.
Try this phone charger cable ( $5) paired with Ghirardelli Dark and Strawberry ( $1) and pair it with a Valentine that says, “I get a charge out of you!”
Or a “Follow Your Heart” koozie ($1) (I added the fringe) with an arrow pen ($1) and the coordinating Valentine that says, “Let’s get Koo-zie!” Ok so now we know why I don’t work at Hallmark! But you get the gist: teen girls will love these little surcees for Valentine’s Day over the traditional paper valentines.

Tweens
Pair their favorite toy or game with delicious morsels of chocolates
As for the tween crowd, my son loves Minecraft, Star Wars, and Legos, so I could easily see adding these heart shaped Ghirardelli chocolates with a Minecraft figurine and a Valentine that says, “Life without you would be creepy” (a Creeper reference from Minecraft).
Or Star Wars Box Busters (a dice game and collector cube)($4) and R2-D2 toy with a yummy treat to eat while you play. I can see the valentine now: “Valentine, you’re out of this world!”

It doesn’t take much to crave chocolate! Just a hint of it and I’m there. And Ghirardelli has some fantastic combinations-I’m partial to the caramel and the raspberry (separate of course).

I am sure there are people out there who know the exact pairings for different types of wine and chocolate, the same way cheese is supposed to be eaten in certain pairs.
Sherry Boswell says
Exactly-I’m willing to try all the pairings for the sake of “research.” Tough job, right?

These are wonderful ideas for valentines day!
Sherry Boswell says
Thanks so much, Lee. My teen thinks I’m a goof for some of the ideas, but I say that’s part of the parenting handbook to embarrass your teen a little.
